We’re getting great reports still coming in from the
construction teams in Atlanta that continue to help us with our Metro facility
expansion.
In recent weeks, we have several generator deliveries coming into
the facility, which will be placed in our “south” generator farm, providing backup
power in the event that main systems experience an outage. Six generators
arrived this week, with more scheduled for delivery in the coming days. The six
generators on-site are currently being installed and conduit is being roughed
in for future start up.Bollards will be
installed around the outside of the generator “farm” to provide protection of
the equipment. Eight additional generators will be delivered and installed for
the north generator farm throughout July and August – look for additional
updates soon.
Progress has also been made on the cooling system. The CRAC
(or, computer room air conditioning) units in one of the new pods as well as in
the UPS room in the basement have been piped up, and ductwork continues to be
installed in those areas as well. The chilled water cooling system in the Metro
central plant has been filled and flushed. General construction has also been
flowing smoothly progress continues in the computer room areas with raised
floor and installation of mechanical and electrical equipment being occurring on
the floor, one of the two pods is nearing a “show” condition.
The team at QTS is excited to share the progress of the
Metro expansion with all of you. If you have any questions about the facility
expansion, please feel free to post them in the comments as we’ll address them
as we’re able!

Well, work on our Metro Center expansion has progressed a
lot since our last update! We will be working in the coming weeks and
months to
bring you more frequent updates about the Metro expansion projects as
well as
other QTS facility expansions or enhancements as they are announced. Over the last two months, the Metro project has really
started to take shape. Both pods now look like rooms, with fire and
moisture
barriers applied and drywall up on all exterior walls.[Read More]
Over the next several months, QualityTech will be undertaking a significant expansion of our Atlanta Metro facility to provide another 130,000 square feet of finished Data Center Floor Space. Two large raised-floor pods will be added to the facility's existing raised-floor footprint of 200,000 square feet. This expansion will complete 65% of the planned raised-floor capacity of the facility and will provide a total of 330,000 square feet of customer-ready raised floor, making this one of the largest data centers in the nation. As QualityTech continues expanding its data center footprint, it becomes more important to develop innovative solutions in data center design, including the adoption of environmentally sustainable design practices. QualityTech has committed itself to follow philosophies and strategies for LEED certification, as outlined by the US Green Building Council and is planning to obtain LEED certification. The Metro facility's expansion will feature next-generation and green systems, including a Facilities Lab to test new energy conservation initiatives. The lab will focus on air and water economization technologies as well as new developments in power distribution and consumption technology. QualityTech will also deploy advanced cooling and delivery methods to the floor that will allow customers to reach even higher levels of power density. These improvements will be leveraged throughout the facility to improve the services delivered to your environment. It will make the Metro data center our Greenest data center to date.
Hello and welcome to the inaugural blog entry for project updates from Quality Technology Services. I am very excited about keeping our customers and partners up to date on the progress of our build out at the Atlanta Metro Data Center. As many of you are aware QTS was fortunate to have General Atlantic invest $150 million for growth and development of products in the QTS suite. The initial project is a build out of 130,000 square feet and associated infrastructure.
This blog will be used to show the progress on the build-out as we work on this over the next 6 months. Check back frequently for updates and check out our cameras that have been placed at strategic points in the facility. We love the challenge of this project and feel fortunate to have the largest data center in the southeast to expand in!
